It has been announced that BAM Nuttall has finally handed over the Guided Bus-way to the County Council. This is an important milestone which will hopefully ensure that this historic route will be operational later this year. After the destruction of the railway line and the amount of money spent on this project it is essential that the “longest Guided Bus-way in the world” is a success. Not only is this success important to the local villages but it is vital for the new town of Northstowe.

As far as we are aware it is now up to the County Council to carry out any remedial works required so that this route can be open to buses. We will keep you updated on progress when possible.

2010

The Guided Bus-way from St Ives to Cambridge was scheduled for opening in Spring 2009. This was then delayed until November 2009. Unfortunately there is still work to do but the contractor Nuttalls and the County Council seem to have reached an impasse over the details and funding. Whilst they argue the Guided Bus-way stands unused, except for the walkers and cyclists who attempt to use the service route whilst avoiding some very deep puddles. I do not think that the service route is officially open to the public. Until it is LDHS cannot encourage people to use it. Certainly more work will be required on the Ouse Viaduct and the drainage issue on parts of the service track needs to be resolved. When the service track is officially open to the public we will let you know. Lets hope this will be by Summer 2010 so that local villagers can walk, cycle and visit the nature reserve at the Swavesey Lakes. To miss “this season” will be a great shame.

After spending so much money and resources on producing this massive concrete structure lets hope that the remaining issues can be resolved and the buses can start running.

We have many photographs that we will load up in due course.
