Since the launch of the Heritage Society in May 2007, our stated objectives to protect and promote the social, rural and military heritage of Longstanton, Oakington and the Northstowe site has taken many forms. As well creating the unique LDHS Archives, lobbying to protect landscape heritage assets, arranging talks and promoting the talks and lectures of other local heritage organisations; LDHS has supported test-pitting events, displays, local research, education projects and use / reuse of our churches and other historic structures.
Today, we are pleased to to show how our work to protect and promote our local heritage continues. The Heritage Society has just funded printing of important research into St Michael’s Well and over the next few weeks we will ensure copies are distributed to Longstanton Parish Council, Friends of St Michael’s group, relevant heritage teams, the Historic Environment Record, the Cambridgeshire Collection etc. We will also lobby the relevant organisation(s) to ensure that urgent repairs to the well hood are carried out as soon as possible.
We hope you will agree that the Heritage Society has played a vital role in heritage protection over nearly two decades but there is so much more that can be done. Please do consider joining the Heritage Society today so more researchers and heritage assets / projects can be supported for many years to come.
