I do hope that as many of you as possible can respond to the current Northstowe Phase 2 Consultation (see links below). It is vital that we get a commitment for a heritage facility as part of the Phase 2 plans. I do believe this is our last chance – at least for the foreseeable future.
The consultation will return to Longstanton this coming Saturday (29 March) between 10 and 4pm .
There is a lot of information available at the exhibitions and knowledgeable people to answer your questions.
They are giving out questionnaires with reply-paid envelopes at these exhibitions.
Alternatively, you can fill out the questionnaire at http://www.northstowe.com/content/comments-form .
Or you can find out details at www.northstowe.com.
If you want to submit comments in your own format, you can do so to northstowe@hca.gsi.gov.uk .
You only have until 5pm on Friday 4 April – 1 week – to make your response.
If you believe in the work of LDHS it is essential that any response to the consultation makes clear that there is a public desire and indeed an expectation to see a museum/ heritage facility included within the old heritage core of buildings. Realistically I think the best chance of obtaining this facility is if it is housed in the former Guard House.
LDHS has already saved some former RAF Oakington buildings (Heritage Core) and we have ensured that the Oakington Pillboxes (9 out of 10 of them) are Listed. The heritage society has had a major impact on heritage preservation of the Northstowe site but the establishment of a museum remains vital to our heritage work. This is the time for everyone to join together to ensure that between us we can create a fantastic educational and historically important community facility.
PLEASE RESPOND TO THE CONSULTATION! A museum will only happen if there is a clear public demand for it.
Many thanks to you all.
Hilary Stroude (LDHS Secretary)
