Hilary Stroude Collection – June 2006?
Flower Festival weekend St. Michael’s church.
Part of Stan Shephard of old farm visible on left. Centre in light green dress Marjorie Barnes formerly of Prentice Close and member of PCC talking to May Pinches (face hidden) whose husband Bill Pinches was Churchwarden for many years. Bill died whilst All Saints’ was closed between 2002 – 2007 so his funeral took place at St Michael’s church. If I remember correctly this was one of the last times that Marjorie went to church. By the autumn she was not feeling herself and things were becoming more difficult. She stopped going to church. In January of 2007 I fulfilled her long standing wish by taking her to a Pilgrim Home at Wellingborough? For whatever reason Marjorie seemed to be deteriorating – she died in the Spring 2007 and never did make it home as she had hoped. She lived to be 96 years old and up to and including this service at St Michael’s church she was an active church goer and totally independent. She was certainly missed by the congregation of All Saint’s church; myself and my daughter. Her family left a box of information to LDHS archives which has yet to be processed. A northener (whose favourite place was Robin Hood Bay) her cousin took her back “home” to be buried alongside her family.)
