As with Longstanton, Oakington & Westwick has seen substantial archaeological excavations being undertaken as part of the Northstowe development. We hope that in future we may be able to provide links so that some of these reports can be accessed from here.
In addition to the ” professional ” excavations members of the Oakington Historical Society have organised their own excavations. I believe so far these have concentrated on the Anglo-Saxon heart of Oakington, which is sited near St. Andrew’s church. We hope that in future we may be able to establish a link to the Oakington Historical Society website so that this information can be accessed from here. Very much a ” hands on ” society Nick Harrison and others are currently building a replica of the Oakington plane, that was built on Church Farm early in the 20th Century. Nick Harrison will be coming to talk to LDHS about the Oakington plane in the Spring. Full details can be found under News – Talks.
We have advised Nick Harrison that he may contact us if more volunteers are needed for any of their excavations.
