In August 1942 Winston Churchill ordered Bomber Command to form an organization, which would be known as the Path Finder Force (PFF). Initially consisting of No.7, 35, 83, 109 and 156 Squadrons, the Pathfinders were tasked with leading the main bomber forces accurately designating enemy targets en route. Their efforts undoubtedly helped Britain win the war. RAF Oakington played a major part in the role of the Pathfinders; details of which will be found in the Airfield section in due course.
The museum commemorates that organization and those who gave so much in achieving its goals.
The museum is not generally open to the public, anyone who knows anybody with a connection to the Path Finder Force is more than welcome visit and have a guided tour. However, when LDHS was being formed we kindly received a letter of support from The Pathfinder Museum. It is hoped that in the future we can develop our relationship with the museum and perhaps they may allow our members to have a guided tour. If this can be arranged we will of course let you know.
Please see the Pathfinder Collection RAF Wyton for further information.
