An up-date on our membership. LDHS now has members from Canada; Australia; Ireland and throughout the United Kingdom. All are united by an interest in the shared histories of Longstanton; Oakington & Westwick; RAF Oakington; Oakington Barracks and the proposed development of Northstowe. LDHS wishes to thank all its members for their continued support and we hope that this website will be provide a focal point for all those who do not live locally. We apologise to all those interested in the Airfield history that content on this section has yet to be loaded. John Hamlin has kindly offered to write a summary / timeline of the history of RAF Oakington, and we will load this information first before “building” our other information and stories around it.

We are currently having a few technical problems uploading new images so many of the pages just have writing. Once this is resolved our priority will be to load some information / photographs on the Airfield section. John Hamlin the author of “RAF Oakington – By Day and By Night” has offered to write the introduction to the airfield section. Copies of John’s book can be purchased from the society by sending your name; address and order details to our address given in the Contact section.

A cheque must be made payable to the Longstanton & District Heritage Society. The cost of the book is £ 9.95 plus £ 3 postage and packing UK only. For orders outside the UK please email us and we can provide you with a quote for postage and packing. The book is quite large and may be expensive to post. John Hamlin kindly donates £ 1.95 from each book sold to LDHS.

Books are delivered to us by the author as required; and orders are batched together. This may mean sometimes there may be a wait of up to 28 days before a book can be delivered. Cheques are not cashed until an order is dispatched.

As you can see the web site is beginning to make significant progress. LDHS wishes to thank both  Rupert Dick of Cambridge Connections and Lee Theobald for helping us with the creation of this site. Please keep coming back as we will try and keep the News section as up to date as possible. Thank you.
