Dr Roy Switzur (right) and assistant taking a wood core from the Medieval timbers for dendrochronological dating. His conclusion was that all the timbers tested dated from 1450 – 1475. The view of architectural historian Mac Dowdy is that The rear range of The Manor is one of the principal Medieval Manors of Longstanton. Its proximity to All Saints’ church denotes that it was high status. Other experts have viewed the timbers and the appropriate slots are in place to show that the main structural timbers are all in the correct place – ie: they are in their original position and are not “ships timbers” brought in from elsewhere.
