Construction of the LDHS website:
We are pleased that we are now making progress with the LDHS website. The task is enormous and will take many months to add on information and photographs from our collections. For the time being we will upload pictures from the archives so that they may be seen by a wider audience. The design and format of the web-site and the pictures / images on it may change over time so do came and visit us often to see what updates we have may.
We make no apologises for the fact that this website has taken so long to set up. The priority of LDHS at this stage is data collection ie: filming; interviewing and scanning old photographs so that the historic information of Longstanton & District is captured. Our other priority is to encourage the developers of Northstowe and local government to protect the heritage of the airfield site and establish a heritage facility preferably in the old Officer’s Mess located off Rampton Road, Longstanton.
We can do none of this work without the support of our members. We have members from all over the UK and some who live abroad. All are united by the desire to see the history of Longstanton; Oakington & Westwick and RAF Oakington / Oakington Barracks preserved for future generations.
